Repair of the ruptured thoracic aorta using left ventriculo-aortic support.

Details of three cases of ruptured thoracic aorta are presented with reference to important diagnostic features, particularly hypertension, radiograph appearances and development of murmurs. An account of left ventriculo-aortic support for the distal circulation is given. This uses the ventricle as the pump, in circumstances where left atrio-femoral bypass may not be practica:ble, and is shown to be technically satisfactory and to provide adequate distal support.
